Top ten reasons why renewable energy is cool!
Ten interesting and in some cases amusing facts that will appeal to students. The electronic version contains hyperlinks to websites and articles that provide more detailed information. It is low resolution and suitable to be printed out a a handout. The poster is high resolution and can be used for display. As an activity why not discuss as a class then ask your students to produce their own.

Choosing our tomorrows
The Maucauley Land Insititute has produced a series of video clips depicting three visions of Scotland in 2050 through the video diaries of members of the same farming family. These voices from the future reflect the radically different choices society has made in response to climate change. These are doing nothing; rapid adoption of new biotechnology and nuclear power and producing food and energy locally from renewable resources. Students can watch the video clips, discuss and even produce their own versions based on one of the senarios. watch

The Wind Power Challenge

Ask students to design a simple wind turbine capable of lifting a cup off the floor to bench height. The winning team will be the one producing a machine that lifts the most weight. Research material, video clips and instruction sheet are provided. A perfect activity for National Science and Engineering Week (12-21st March) Resources include instruction sheet, wind turbine images, links to videos and downloadable certificates. |

Moja Island - Whole class renewable energy activity
Moja island is a 1-2 hour activity which will reinforce students' understanding of renewable energy sources. Students consider the variety of different options available to communities living on Moja Island and select the most approriate technology.
